Where the numbers come from
How the price is worked out
  1. The world price of one troy ounce of gold in US dollars is taken each business day from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, which publishes it daily.
  2. It is converted to pesos at the European Central Bank exchange rate (pesos per US dollar).
  3. Dividing by 31.1035 gives the price of one gram of pure (24K) gold.
  4. Other karats are worked out by purity: 18K is 18/24 of the 24K price.
  5. Other currencies use the European Central Bank rates of the same day.
